Tornado compressor

Acknowledged as a world-leader in compressor technology, Sauer has increased the product range of air-cooled high-pressure compressors with the newly designed Tornado series, consisting of the three-stage WP 3215 and the four-stage WP 4325.

The Sauer Tornado series provide the following benefits:

  • high-pressure performance - 225 to 400 l/min – to 420 bar
  • lower operating temperatures
  • low vibration
  • less maintenance

The Tornado design principle is based upon the established water-cooled WP 5000 Sauer Navy compressor, as used in modern submarines, with the vertical arrangement for the running gear and the ‘star-arrangement’ for the cylinders. This design configuration is distinguished by the very small foot-print needed and, with almost perfect mass balance, for the extremely low values for airbourne noise and vibration.

Optimal results for airborne noise and inter-cooling temperatures of the compressed air are achieved with the unique arrangement for the high-performance axial-flow cooling fan. This design feature in a flow-optimised housing, together with again optimal design for both inter-coolers and after-cooler, was especially developed for the Tornado series.

The low outlet temperature of 5° C above ambient, as well as a maximum 3 mg/m³ residual oil content, considerably reduce the expenditure required for downstream filtration and improve service life.

Direct-drive, pressure-oil lubrication with slide bearings for the crankshaft, in conjunction with benefits from the Sauer ‘star’ cylinder design; ensure exceptionally reliability with low-maintenance operation and servicing intervals far longer than those of the competition.

Either of the Tornado compressors, WP 3215 and WP 4325, is available as a “Basic-Version” – compressor with motor and, as an option, a separate Control Panel – and as a “Comsilent-Version” – a complete, ready-to-operate system within a soundproof enclosure.

In addition, both compressors can also be supplied for “special” applications if needed.
